In this context, the use of the word Smörgåsbord refers to a presentation and selection of desirable things.
But, did you know that the original meaning of Smörgåsbord also holds the same principle? The concept of Smörgåsbord actually came from the ancient warriors of the seas of Scandinavia, the Vikings. In Swedish, Smörgåsbord is an
open table or a buffet style commonly seen in restaurants or homes, wherein various delectable and attractively-arranged foods are placed. The usual components of a Smörgåsbord are wide arrays of sandwiches, and cold and hot dishes like fish (eels, salmon, etc.) and meats (meatballs, etc.), colorful vegetables, and
dairy products such as cheeses, eggs, and dark breads.
Smörgåsbord is prepared during different occasions like Christmas and other holidays in Sweden. Sometimes, this kind of buffet is also held during ordinary situations as lunches or breakfasts. In fact,
many high-end hotels have adopted this kind of service, wherein they present guests with an assorted line of meals, desserts, and beverages.
